Recent Articles by Gordon SawyerEvery once in a blue moon a political candidate comes along with absolutely the right set of credentials, and the proven leadership abilities, for the position they are seeking, and to deal with the issues to be faced once in office. Almost everybody knows times are tough. Certainly working folks and families know it. Small, local businesses are hanging on for dear life. Last week I did a commentary on how fortunate we are to have award-winning local news operations in Gainesville rather than relying on Atlanta media for information and opinion. My checklist A bit of LOCAL history if I may… It is true I have openly said I will vote NO on the upcoming SPLOST initiative… As expected, the morning after President Obama’s address to America our local radio stations and internet news outlets were giving their take on that event. There’s an old proverb that says: he who does not know history is doomed to repeat it. It has been the 1960-1970’s all over again. Congress voted, and President Obama signed the largest transfer of power from local and state government levels to the Federal government in history… Serious historians generally credit George Washington and Abraham Lincoln with being America’s two greatest presidents. Let me ask you to read the United States constitution, AND the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to the Constitution.
