Man survives 80-foot fall into rock quarry
By The Associated Press
VESTA - A quarry owner is in the hospital after being thrown through the windshield of a crane and falling nearly 80 feet into an Oglethorpe County quarry.
Oglethorpe County Sheriff's officials said 51-year-old Bob Adams was flown to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta on Monday after the accident. His condition was unknown.
Oglethorpe County emergency medical services director James Mathews said Adams suffered multiple fractures on his legs and arms, but was alert when rescue workers reached him at the bottom of the quarry. Mathews said it took rescue workers an hour and a half to lift Adams out with a crane.
Adams owns American Blue Granite.
