BRASELTON – A family is displaced following a residential blaze on Madrid Falls Road in Braselton on Saturday.

Upon arrival, firefighters could see heavy smoke and flames from both floors of the two-story house. Since the home was close to the county line, both Gwinnett and Barrow crews responded.

“It took firefighters working together from both Gwinnett and Barrow counties to bring the blaze under control,” Gwinnett Fire Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.

Barrow units arrived first and put hoses on the ground to attack the blaze. Crews made immediate entry to conduct a search and battle the flames.

Rutledge says the fire appears to be accidental and is believed to have started in a rear bedroom. No one was home when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

“The fire caused heavy damage to the structure,” Rutledge added.

The Red Cross is assisting the two adults and two children displaced by the damage.
