HOMER -- After two tough losses, the Banks County football team finally got the breakout win it was looking for on Friday night, defeating Dawson County 48-27 in Homer.
Justin Beasley and Demetric Dempson bulldozed the Tigers (1-2, 0-2 Region 8-AA) defense for 397 yards rushing. The Leopards' (1-2, 1-1) leading rushers also scored two touchdowns apiece, as Beasley amassed 274 yards on 24 carries. Dempson added 123 on 12 rushes.
Banks County quarterback Chris Porter also finished 7-of-13 through the air with 121 yards and two scores. His leading receiver was Kane Duncan, who finished with four catches for 45 yards and both scores.
The Leopards pulled ahead 14-7 after the first quarter and doubled their advantage to 28-14 at the half.
The Tigers offense kept pace with Banks County in the first half but couldn't come up with crucial scores in the third quarter, as Banks held Dawson to just six points.
The Leopards travel to take on Rabun County next Friday, while Dawson County will look to bounce back against at Fannin County.
