Weather service offers heat wave safety tipsBy Ken Stanford Staff UNDATED - Heat waves are a major killer of people during the summer and the National Weather Service is one source for tips on how to stay safe during a heat wave such as the one that now has its grip on Georgia.
The death of a man near Macon Sunday may have been heat-related. (See separate story.) For three days now, temperatures in north Georgia have been about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year and the heat index by 2:00 Monday afternoon was around 100 in some places with no break in the hot weather expected all week.
