4 sentenced in Ga. driver's license scheme
By The Associated Press
MACON- Two former driver's license examiners have been sentenced to time in federal prison after pleading guilty to selling licenses to illegal immigrants and others.
Senior U.S. District Judge Hugh Lawson in Macon sentenced 36-year-old Kenneth Boyt to 2 years in prison and 41-year-old Denise Searcy Trower to two years and six months behind bars. Both are from Kathleen.
Two others involved in the scheme were also sentenced. The judge gave 49-year-old Javeed Bukhari of Lawrenceville 9 months in prison and a $10,000 fine, and 41-year-old Ghanshyam Patel of Perry was sentenced to 5 years' probation.
Federal prosecutors say Bukhari and Patel would find people to buy licenses from Boyt and Trower. The four would split the money, sometimes as much as $6,000.
